In short...I do a lot of stuff. I'm a musician, movie watcher, political nut, law-school-drop-out (for justified reasons of course), aspiring marketing professional, and other things...

So there are probably better places to search for records than a Goodwill, but today on a whim I decided to go see what they had cookin’ over there.  Pretty much all their LP’s were classical or crap (I found probably like 30 Laserdiscs mixed in), but when I got to the 45’s I started to find some seriously fun stuff.  Below is the list of things I grabbed….probably the strangest assortment anyone could have dreamed up, but it’s making for a fun night thus far…

1982 - Culture Club - “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me”/”You Know I’m Not Crazy”

1980 - Hank Williams Jr. - “Old Habits”/”Won’t It Be Nice”

1982 - Alabama - “Take Me Down”/”Lovin’ You Is Killin’ Me”

1972 - Sammy Davis Jr. - “The Candy Man”/”I Want to Be Happy”

- yes “The Candy Man” is the one heard in Willy Wonka…awesome

1978 - Donna Summer - “Mac Arthur Park”/”Once Upon a Time”

- some seriously kickin’ disco tunes…also her first #1

1972 - Billy Preston - “Outa-Space”/”I Wrote a Simple Song”

1977 - Santana - “She’s Not There”/”Zulu”

- I don’t normally dig Santana, but this cover of the Zombies is fantastic, the guitar solos are out of this world

1970 - Kenny Rogers & The First Edition - “Something’s Burning”/”Mamma’s Waiting”

- KR before the Gambler and the Botox…wait for it to pick up…don’t be fooled by the beginning

- and this one…it’s one of my all time favorite songs…why did he ever become a solo country star!?

1981 - Alabama - “Feels So Right”/”See the Embers/Feel the Flame”

1981 - The Oak Ridge Boys - “Bobbie Sue”/”Live in Love”

Well….thats all of them from this first batch.  I didn’t think I’d end up with so much country…at least its good stuff.  I’m getting pumped to keep doing this.  I also just purchased Born to Run on eBay, and I should be getting it next week.  That will be a pretty awesome day.  Check out some of those tunes…fantastic stuff.

The studio version of “Because of You” is the first song I ever heard of Keith Green’s I think.  It pulled me in when I was young because of the absolutely kickin’ piano playing, and it has always been one of my favorites by him.  Then I used it in the video I put together for my Dad’s funeral back in October.  I believe it exemplified the way he looked at his life.  It’s carrying even more meaning for me recently as I realize I want the words of that song to be the testimony of my life as well.  Maybe I can learn to play piano like that too, ha.  This video is of a pretty rare live version.  Listen and enjoy.

What do Abraham Lincoln, perms, and a drummer with a killer stache have in common?  Watch possibly the greatest video ever to find out…

I’ve been feeling this song speaking to my life a lot the past several days.  If you’re not familiar with Keith Green you probably should be.  Dude could play the living hell out of a piano and his testimony and life are exemplary models for any person.

Where You Lead - Carole King

ummmm…you’ll know if this one is intentionally for you…just fyi…

Just a rough little countryesque cover a Ray Charles tune for my girlfriend…enjoy (or hate it, its your choice)

Coolest bathroom ever…

Bruce Springsteen & The Sessions Band - This Little Light of Mine - Live In Dublin

I know the last post was the Boss, but come on…can you have too much of the guy?  I think not.  A few years back he released another album of folk stuff done by Seeger, this live album was from the subsequent tour.  Anyway, this isn’t a Seeger song, but I have never heard an old Sunday school song beefed up like this.  Seriously, its pretty awesome especially if you dig bluegrass, folks, gospel, or just kickin music.  Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve been working through the Beatles Anthology documentary on Netflix for the last couple days.  So far its seeming to be the most interesting 11 hours and 23 minutes I’ve found anywhere.  If you’re a Beatles fan in the least its worth watching through.  The interviews are pretty revealing and it all weaves together into a really cool mix of live footage, behind the scenes kinda stuff, and band interviews.  Check it out…
